President Putin outlines Russia's security priorities : Voice of Russia

According to Putin, Russia should use a variety of instruments, including the so-called ?mild force? in order to hamper attempts by some forces to slow down Russia?s economic integration with its immediate neighbors.

Putin said that any pressure on Russia and its partners is inadmissible. He specifically referred to pressure exerted by some non-profit organizations, which are financed from abroad.

"Although the citizens? constitutional right for freedom of speech is inviolable, no-one has the right to sow hatred, rock the society and the country and jeopardize the lives, well-being and tranquility of millions of our citizens. Russia sees the process of forming a full-blown civil society, where people show more drive to bear responsibility for the latest developments in their country. At the same time, no-one, including structures managed and sponsored from abroad, is authorized to speak on behalf of the entire Russian society."

Putin said that counterespionage activity remains a top priority of the Federal Security Service. He recalled that Russian counterintelligence agents have neutralized dozens of foreign spies in the past.

"Last year, our counterintelligence agencies neutralized the work of 34 intelligence services employees and 181 foreign spies, with 12 of them caught red-handed. Espionage targets include budding national development projects, including those related to the military-industrial complex, as well as confidential economic and political information."

In 2012, the FSB conducted more than 60 special operations under the aegis of the Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee. During these operations, 99 terrorism-related crimes and 6 terrorist acts were prevented. Citing the complicated security situation in Russia, Putin expressed hope that special services will successfully do their job during major international events in the country.

These include the 2013 World Student Games in Kazan, the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi and the 2018 World Soccer Championship. Putin urged more efforts to map out a system of preventive measures to contain a terrorism threat. He also called on FSB agents to add to maintaining Russia?s economic security and protecting national business interests, including in cross-border areas.
