'Pink To Do' Cancer Survivor

Friends, family and community members went out today to support the women in their lives affected by breast cancer. Orlando Garza went to Laredo Community College where they hosted the Pink-to-Do walk and brings us back stories of the women who are in the fight of their lives.

Hoards of people gathered today at Laredo Community College's south campus to support family members who have breast cancer, survived breast cancer, or passed away fighting the deadly disease.
I'm a survivor and I'm interested in helping everyone I can,? said Maribel Mendiola. Maribel Mendiola is a cancer survivor; she is one of many cancer survivors who never payed much attention to disease. ?It's something I thought would never happen to me, but now I understand why." She says she learned to appreciate everyday and everyone around her. "It changed my whole life completely. [It taught me] to learn and love everyday to see light every time you wake up, and give thanks to God for another day that you get to see." She says that during her battle with cancer she learned how to stay strong and others should do the same. "I have faith. Never give up, there will always be hope for everybody."

As the many supporters made their way around the campus, the Pink-to-Do organization gave a gift that still stands to this day. Two red oak trees were planted here 7 years ago, one for the victims and one for the survivors. The one standing next to me is the one for the survivors standing as firm as the survivors that walk today.
