Chicago State Street Poetry Installation: That Great Street to Celebrate 100 Years of Poetry in Chicago.
The road not taken.

CHICAGO, Tuesday, September 18, 2012. With no apologies to Robert Frost who decided to travel the road less taken, the Chicago Loop Alliance (CLA) has decided, instead, to travel the "road" in Chicago that is taken by more than 220,000 people each day.? The CLA, in partnership with the Poetry Foundation, announced today that it will be?infiltrating each side of State Street from Wacker Drive to Congress Parkway with visual and audio installations for its 100-year salute to poetry during the month of October.

The extensive installation will include audio poem excerpts from the likes of Ezra Pound, T. S. Eliot and Wallace Stevens?and more contemporary writers, including former U. S. Poets Laureate Kay Ryan and Robert Hass, as well as local poets Reginald Gibbons and Li-Young Lee.

In addition, six more clusters will be added to Lightscape: A Multisensory Experience on State Street to create more poetry for passersby by using visual and sound density.

?We are thrilled to partner with the Poetry Foundation to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Poetry magazine,? said CLA Interim Executive Director Laura Jones. ?For Chicago Loop Alliance, the anniversary is an opportunity to introduce broad public audiences to the legacy of creative expression that Poetry represents. Poetry may be an international publication but, to us, it is above all a Chicago institution.?

So, all together now, sing out..."Roses are red, violets are blue" and October brings better poetry for you.
